Oh I LOVED this memory verse, it was kind of challenging to memorize but we did it AMEN!!! Let's look at it again:
1 John 1:9
If we [freely] admit that we have sinned and confess our sins, He is faithful and just (true to His own nature and promises) and will forgive our sins [dismiss our lawlessness] and [continuously] cleanse us from all unrighteousness [everything not in conformity to His will in purpose, thought, and action].
We see here that in everything GOD wants a free yielding and surrendering of ourselves to Him, first and foremost. While God will pursue us through the Holy Spirit and His Word and even others He wants US to come freely to Him and in this case repent and confess our sins to Him. I love how it shows sin as lawlessness, and that is exactly what it is. It is defiance, it is rebellion AGAINST GOD, so it is only fitting that we should have to come to GOD to receive forgiveness NOT man. While we may share with others our sins and struggles for accountablity purposes and prayer that we may receive healing according to James 5:16, it is to GOD ONLY that we confess our sins in order to receive forgiveness of our rebellion against Him.
Here is another great point in this Scripture, CONTINUOUSLY receiving cleansing from everything that does not conform to GOD's will in purpose, thought, and action. I'm telling you if we as the Body can get ahold that THAT right there!!!! My GOD that is powerful!!!! Not only did the Father by sending Jesus, make a way for us to be reconciled TO Himself, but He also made a way for us to STAY reconciled to Him!!! Hallelujah!!! That's where GOD's nature of being "faithful and just" come in at the begining! GOD does not desire to PUNISH but to FORGIVE and bring HEALING, RESTORATION, and BLESSING!!! He does not desire that those who sin inside of Him -SIN but He again He has provided a WAY for us to get right back into fellowship with Him and with eachother...Our job is to PROCLAIM to the sinner man, that NOT ONLY does GOD desire to forgive them of their rebellion against Him, but He will also help them STAY in fellowship with Him. PROCLAIM how they can after receiving Jesus as LORD, receive "CONTINUOUS CLEANSING" from EVERYTHING that does not conform to HIS WILL in purpose, thought, and action. OH GOD, IS A GOOD GOD!!!! Share Him today and everyday (-:
